I made two dog bone necklaces for Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue’s holiday eBay auction. The event starts soon after Thanksgiving so make sure to check out their website for more details to help them help goldens in need. The photos above show “Golden Swirls”, a Lampwork dog bone necklace featuring a glass bone torched by favorite artisan, Janet Crosby. I paired Janet’s bone with lovely, shimmering Mother of Pearl set off with shiny sterling silver and a sparkling Swarovski Crystal charm.

I couldn’t decide what to call the second necklace as it features a really unusual bone. “Blue Mist”, “Purple Haze” and “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” were contenders. In the end, “Blue Mist” won.

The focal, again, is a beautiful, mysterious, glass bone by Janet. I tried to pick up the gorgeous colors in the bone through a variety of shades of Swarovski Crystals. Oxidized, ornate sterling silver give this piece a formal feel. It really is quite lovely in person, if I do say so myself!

What goes around comes around. What better way to help the organization that took in Golden Retriever puppies, Ben & Jerry.

Because of a faux pas when I wrote the first blog post, I had to make another necklace to donate in the memory of those two sweet pups that they and Spencer’s humans took in.

“Love Is Golden”, the necklace pictured here, features some very special beads that are near and dear to my heart. They’re a Golden Retriever and a dog biscuit Lampwork beads by favorite glass artist, Janet Crosby.

These beads were a custom order that turned into holiday pressies from Janet last Christmas. Wasn’t that sweet of her?

This is one of her golden retriever beads that literally make me cry. But they are good tears. Happy tears because her craftsmanship touches me so much, and her bead reminds me of my beloved goldens who both passed away a few years ago from different types of Cancer. Many good times! I really loved those dogs.

Personally, I like to wear jewelry that is simple and unfussy. The three I’ve just listed fits that bill. They’re very wearable and are one-of-a-kind.

As long as I can remember, I have always loved dogs and have a special affinity for goldens.

One of the blogs I like to read is Spencer’s Blog. He’s a Golden Retriever mascot and retired movie star. His blog is full of his adventures – an often humorous and entertaining read.

Recently, his blog took on a serious note with the touching story of rescued Golden Retriever pups, Ben & Jerry. Read it for yourself in the moving, wise words of Spencer’s mom.

It was this post that prompted me to look up the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue (GRCGLA Rescue), add them as a permanent organization in my “Paws For A Good Cause” effort, and inspired me to create and dedicate the following piece in memory of Ben & Jerry.

This “Love Bone” necklace features an adorable Lampwork glass bone bead handcrafted by Kim Yamakawa of JuJu Beadz. Kim sweetly donated this bead especially for “Paws For A Good Cause”.

Genuine red Coral barrels, Karen Hill Tribe Silver and Sterling Silver make up the rest of the necklace.

Edit: To clarify, Spencer’s humans have informed me that they were fostering Ben & Jerry for the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue (SCGR Rescue).

Spencer was fostered, then later adopted from the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue (GRCGLA Rescue).

Both are great organizations and will be terrific, permanent additions for ‘Paws For A Good Cause’.
